For the operation and upkeep of the Ain Zarqa Project in the West Bekaa District, the Southern Council of Lebanon has given the Water Resources and Development Company a significant contract worth LBP 14,877,409,965.
The agreement, which was completed on October 9, 2025, demonstrates the government's ongoing dedication to improving water management infrastructure and guaranteeing sustainable water supply operations in the Bekaa region, which is one of Lebanon's most important residential and agricultural areas.
The project, officially named "Operation and Maintenance Works of the Ain Zarqa Project - West Bekaa District / Group (1)," includes the administration, upkeep, and repair of essential water distribution networks and facilities that serve the local populace. These projects are intended to strengthen water delivery efficiency throughout rural communities, lower losses, and increase system reliability.
The chosen contractor will be in charge of maintaining the Ain Zarqa water infrastructure on a daily basis, performing preventive and remedial maintenance, and optimising the use of water resources. The project's goal is to provide the district's households and farmers with a reliable and clean water supply.
The procurement body in charge of carrying out the project is the Southern Council, which has its headquarters on Bechara El Khoury Street in Beirut. Following a competitive selection process, the winning bidder was the Water Resources and Development Company, a Lebanese company with expertise in hydraulic engineering, water management, and infrastructure development.
There is a lot of local significance to this operation and maintenance contract.
