Description: BACKGROUNDWith the support of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, UNICEF has been in the last two years testing several technologies to be able to treat the wastewater generated by the informal settlement residents as well as being a possible solution for the Lebanese citizen living in areas where it-s not cost-effective to be connected to conventional wastewater sewer networks.By 2020, 22 pilots have been installed and tested. UNICEF, with the support of Umwelt-Projekt-Management GmbH [1] (UPM), has reviewed the results of the different systems based on the operation and maintenance; definition of all the costs incurred; footprint, and compliance to the limit of discharge in the environment stated in the decision 8/1 MoE 2001.This revision has informed the design of two new systems identified as being the combination of the most effective technologies tested before.
