Jan 2024 Intervention Sector(s): Citizenship, Communications & Media, Coordination & Information management Remuneration range: 1000 to 2000 (USD) Duration of Contract: 2 years starting February 2026 The Lebanese American University (LAU), in collaboration with the Arab Council for the Social Sciences (ACSS), is seeking applicants for the position of a part-time Country Program Coordinator (CPC) for the New Generation of Social Scientists in the Arab Region Fellowship Program (NewGen) in Lebanon. This unique opportunity seeks a qualified individual to coordinate fellowship activities, liaise with partner universities in Lebanon, Egypt, Palestine and Tunisia and contribute to the development of a new generation of social scientists in the Arab region. About NewGen The Arab Council for the Social Sciences (ACSS) is a regional, independent, non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening social science research and knowledge production in the Arab region. Through several programs and activities, the ACSS supports researchers and academic/research institutions intending to contribute to the creation, dissemination, validation and utilization of social science research, as well as to enrich public debate about the challenges facing Arab societies. To advance its mission, ACSS launched in early 2019 a new mentorship and training program under the name β€˜A New Generation of Social Scientists in the Arab Region Program-, which is referred to as the β€˜NewGen fellowship-. NewGen targets university students at the BA, MA and PhD levels in Arab universities. Currently, NewGen is implemented in four countries of the Arab region: Palestine, Tunisia, Lebanon and Egypt in collaboration with 16 Arab universities. The Lebanese American University (LAU) is the main partner university in Lebanon. The CPC will be based at LAU and carry out their work from an office at the university. Objectives Help develop a new generation of social scientists who are committed to critical scholarship and research, teaching and mentorship and public engagement. Support students in the social sciences at the BA, MA and PhD levels by offering innovative coursework and opportunities for training, mentorship, internships and networking. Create an institutional network that will support students nationally and regionally and facilitate knowledge transfer and sharing across the region. Duties and responsibilities The CPC will work with the ACSS NewGen staff and the Interim Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences (SoAS) at the Lebanese American University to design and deliver the fellowship activities. The CPC will interact directly with fellows to deliver the guidance and support required for a successful journey through the various components of the program. The CPC will also be responsible for implementing the fellowship program in Lebanon and for its day-to-day implementation as it relates to participating fellows. Specifically, the CPC will be responsible for: Program outreach. Fellow selection. Fellow on-boarding. Suggestion and implementation of program activities. Coordination of program offerings. Development and creation of learning opportunities. Fellow guidance and troubleshooting. Community building. Overall program evaluation and impact. Collaboration with other coordinators in the various countries of the program. The CPC will work closely and regularly with the Senior Program Coordinator from ACSS. A schedule of regular update meetings will be agreed between the CPC and the ACSS Program Coordinator. Minimum Requirements Graduate Degree in Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, Political Science, Gender Studies, Economics, or a related field. A Minimum of two to three years of work experience in a setting/capacity directly relevant to the role, for example at a university or in the area of education in a non-profit sector.
