• Tenders are invited for Nutrition Facts Labeling and Barcode Implementation Consultant -Aryaf- Maha Mouneh. Closing Date: Friday, 15. Dec 2023 Intervention Sector(s): Training & Capacity Building Remuneration range: 3000 to 4000 (USD) Duration of Contract: N/A Context & Background Berytech is a leading organization in the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem in Lebanon, that aims to provide a conducive environment for the creation and development of startups, through incubation, business support, counseling, funding, networking, and company hosting, hence taking part in the economic revival of the country, participating in wealth and job creation, and retaining graduates and high-level skills in Lebanon. About ARYAF PROJECT ARYAF serves Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises operating in food processing, local hospitality, tourism, the restaurant industry, eco-tourism, and Agri-tourism within west Bekaa, Zahle, and South Mount Lebanon. The program aims to empower sixty MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) to increase their sales volume, implement a business continuity plan, and provide training to their staff, including youth, women, and disabled individuals. The program is funded by The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für International Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), in partnership with Berytech, within the framework of Strengthening Agriculture, Local Communities and Small and Medium Enterprises project (ACE). Background Maha Mouneh is a small enterprise that produces homemade mouneh and traditional Lebanese foods such as jams, pickles, liquids, and distillates, ready-made foods preserved without preservatives, and others. Maha Mouneh is located in Deir Ghazal Bekaa and sells its products mainly in the Bekaa region and some outlets in Beirut. Maha Mouneh aims to expand its local sales and penetrate more points of sale, especially in Beirut, where there is a high demand for quality and authentic Lebanese food products. The primary objective of this consultancy is to facilitate the creation of nutrition facts labels for selected Maha Mouneh products and implement barcodes on packaging. This initiative aims to enable Maha Mouneh to enter more points of sale by meeting regulatory requirements, enhancing product visibility, and providing consumers with essential nutritional information. Scope of Work Product Assessment and Selection: Collaborate with Maha Mouneh's team to identify a set of priority products for which nutrition facts labels will be created and barcodes implemented, considering factors such as demand, sales volume, market relevance, and seasonality. Nutrition Facts Labeling: Conduct nutritional analysis and create accurate nutrition facts labels for the selected Maha Mouneh products in compliance with local and international regulations. Barcode Implementation: Develop and implement a barcode system for the designated products, ensuring proper encoding and compatibility with industry standards and retail requirements. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that the nutrition facts labels and barcodes meet all relevant legal and industry standards, providing necessary documentation and certifications as required. Staff Training and Handover: Provide training to Maha Mouneh's staff on the maintenance and management of the nutrition facts labeling and barcode systems, enabling them to sustain the initiative post-consultancy. Reporting and Documentation: Prepare comprehensive reports detailing the process, findings, recommendations, and outcomes of the nutrition facts labeling and barcode implementation project. Deliverables The deliverables for the consultancy aimed at issuing nutrition facts for selected items and implementing barcodes for Maha Mouneh's products could include: Nutrition Facts Labels: Completed and accurate nutrition facts label for the selected Maha Mouneh products. Documentation of the nutritional analysis conducted for each product, showcasing the breakdown of macronutrients (such as calories, fats, carbohydrates, proteins), micronutrients, and other relevant nutritional information in compliance with regulatory standards. Barcode Implementation: Implemented barcode system for the designated products, ensuring unique identification and compatibility with industry standards and retail requirements. Barcode files or documentation detailing the encoding format and information linked to each product's barcode. Regulatory Compliance Documents: Documentation demonstrating compliance with local and international food labeling regulations, including any certifications or approvals obtained. Training Materials and Sessions: Training materials prepared for Maha Mouneh's staff regarding the maintenance, management, and understanding of the nutrition facts labeling and barcode systems. Conducted training sessions for Maha Mouneh's staff members involved in handling or managing the labeling and barcode systems. Reports and Documentation: Comprehensive reports outlining the process, methodologies used, findings, recommendations, and outcomes of the nutrition facts labeling and barcode implementation project. Any additional documentation generated during the consultancy that provides insights, best practices, or valuable information for future reference. Handover and Follow-up: Handover of all implemented systems, documents, and resources related to nutrition facts labeling and barcode implementation to Maha Mouneh's team. Follow-up support or assistance to address any queries or issues that may arise after the consultancy period regarding the implemented systems. These deliverables aim to ensure that Maha Mouneh gains comprehensive nutrition labeling for selected products and a functional barcode system that aligns with regulatory standards, enabling the enterprise to enter more points of sale and enhance consumer engagement and satisfaction. Adjustments or additional deliverables may be specified based on specific project needs or client requirements. Qualifications Demonstrated expertise in nutrition labeling, food regulatory compliance, and barcode implementation within the food production or consumer goods industry. Familiarity with Lebanese and international food labeling regulations and standards. Proven track record in project management and successful implementation of similar initiatives. Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with Maha Mouneh's team to achieve project objectives. How to apply Timeline and Application The selected consultant is expected to start as soon as possible after selection. The contract duration is 6 weeks Candidates should submit the following documents: Technical (maximum two pages) describing the methodology to conduct the work based on the content suggested in the section: “Scope of Work, and Deliverables” elaborating it further. Profile and project references (maximum two pages): A brief explanation of the consultant(s) background should be submitted (CVs shall be included as an annex) along with project references on the topic. Financial Proposal describing the expected remuneration and the proposed period of the intervention divided per deliverable.
